Justice to be just and humane


The jail system was never built to heal. It was built to warehouse the poor and spit them out more broken than they went in — on purpose.

Here’s the truth:

You get fined with a $100 ticket → $100 fine you don’t have → can’t pay → warrant → jail. In jail you lose your $11/hr job, your apartment, your kids go to foster care. You come out with a record, $40 in “gate money,” and a bus ticket. Now nobody hires you, housing denies you, and the only people who offer “work” are the same streets that landed you inside. Cycle complete. Poverty → prison → deeper poverty → prison.

They call it “corrections.” I call it state-sponsored soul assassination of the poor.

  • 93% of people in local jails are there because they’re too poor to pay bail (some as low as $500).

  • You can literally be legally innocent and still sit in a cage for months because you’re broke.

  • Once inside, you pay $5 for a pack of ramen that costs 35¢ outside.

  • Phone calls: $15 for 15 minutes to hear your kid cry.


In 2025, roughly 450,000–500,000 Americans are in jail RIGHT NOW who have not been convicted of anything — most are there only because they’re too poor to pay cash bail or fines (source: Prison Policy Initiative, ACLU, Vera Institute).

The injustice is by design: the system monetizes poverty and calls it “justice.” A rich person gets a ticket and pays it. A poor person gets the same ticket and eventually gets a cage.


That’s not a glitch. That’s the business model.
